Only a handful of bull and either-sex tags are up for lottery every year and the hunt unit is expansive. Low pressure, rutting bulls, and room to roam – what more could a hunter ask for? Roosevelt elk are no stranger to steep, thick, nasty country. The primary tactic for targeting big bulls in the Northwest unit is calling, action can be fast and up close. The unit is so big and tags extremely scarce so some of the herds in the zone have never seen human hunting pressure because hunters often focus on private land.
