With breathtaking vistas and a thriving wildlife population, Utah stands out as a premier destination for those seeking an unforgettable hunting adventure.
Utah’s upland bird hunts take place in high-country terrain of the Wasatch and adjacent National Forests, with elevations between 7,000 and 10,000 feet. The landscape features steep canyons, rocky ridgelines, and mixed stands of spruce, fir, pine, and aspen, interspersed with open meadows and brushy sage slopes. Hunters navigate rugged trails through dense timber, talus fields, and alpine clearings where grouse and chukar hold in pockets of cover. This remote mountain environment offers both challenging hikes and sweeping vistas across forested valleys and high plateaus.
Upland bird hunts in Utah are based from comfortable mountain lodges or nearby hotels, providing a convenient home base after days spent in high‐country terrain. Accommodations feature private rooms with standard beds and modern climate control, ensuring a restful night’s sleep at elevations between 7,000 and 10,000 feet. These lodgings serve as the launching point for guided forays into aspen groves, rocky ridgelines, and sage‐brush slopes. Heating and cooling systems maintain a consistent indoor climate regardless of outdoor temperature swings, allowing hunters to focus on conditioning and preparation for each day’s outing.
We think these three hunts should be at the top of your list:
Epic Grouse Hunting in Utah (Price Per Gun, 2 Gun Minimum)
Utah hunts are offered on a limited basis in October. We offer Blue and Ruffed grouse hunts as well as some chukar. The hunts are based on permit availability for the various National Forest areas of Utah, but we primarily conduct hunts near Spanish Fork or Heber city Utah.
These hunts are challenging and at elevations ranging from 7000 to 10000 feet above sea level. The hiking is a little tough, but all worthwhile when a big Blue gets up.
If you decide to hunt chukar, be prepared. As they say, you hunt them once for sport and every other time is for revenge.

Utah FAQs
What you need to know before you book:
What type of terrain should I expect when hunting in Utah?
Utah upland bird hunts take place at 7,000 to 10,000 feet in the Wasatch and adjacent National Forests. You’ll navigate steep canyons, rocky ridgelines, talus fields, dense stands of spruce, fir, pine and aspen, as well as open meadows and brushy sage slopes. Expect rugged trails and alpine clearings where grouse and chukar concentrate.
Are hunts in Utah typically more physical or accessible?
These hunts lean toward the physical side. Covering elevations up to 10,000 feet, you’ll tackle steep climbs, uneven talus and dense timber. That said, operations are based at comfortable mountain lodges or nearby hotels, so logistics, meals and lodging remain accessible even if the daily bird work is challenging.
How does weather affect hunting in Utah?
High‐country weather is unpredictable. Mornings can be cool or frosty, afternoons may bring warm sun or sudden thunderstorms, and even summer hunts can see brief showers or wind. Dressing in layers, carrying waterproof gear and checking forecasts daily will help you adapt to swift temperature and weather swings.
