About Our Iguana Hunts

Intro to this species—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.

Summary

The iguana, primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions, is a distinctive species known for its vibrant green coloration, robust body, and long, whip-like tail, which it uses for balance and defense. With their keen eyesight and excellent climbing ability, iguanas can often be found basking in trees or near water sources, making them a challenging target for hunters. Iguana hunts are casual, allowing hunters to talk, make noise, and do lots of shooting. Iguanas are invasive, so there are generally no limits and no season. These are good hunts for anyone: kids, families, or new hunters. The awesome side benefit of hunting iguanas is that removing them is good for native ecosystems.

Hunt Features

Iguana hunts in South Florida combine purpose with fun. Conducted year-round along the region’s canals, these guided outings use small boats and trained retrieval dogs to locate, harvest, and remove invasive iguanas . Typically guides can take two or three hunters per boat (sometimes more) —making it easy to bring a partner or add additional guests. Because these hunts often take place along canals where there are nearby houses, the weapon of choice is often a high-powered air rifle. They are quiet, but surprisingly effective, though the need for good shot placement does add some challenge to these hunts.

Amenities

Iguana hunts are generally conducted as guided day trips without on-site lodging or sleeping facilities. Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodations—such as nearby hotels or guest lodges. Some packages may include small snacks, but it's best to plan to bring your own food and water as well. "Amenities" are thin on most iguana hunts. Make sure to bring sun-protective clothes and sunscreen. These hunts are casual and a great time.

4-5 Hour Professional Iguana Hunt With Dogs
Hop in the boat with our team of professional iguana hunting guides and dogs, hunting invasive iguanas on the canals of South Florida. We put decades of hunting and conservation experience to work to ethically and safely harvest these, "canal dragons." These hunts are always exciting, with a lot of shooting and a lot of fun. Every hunt makes a positive impact on our ecosystem and forges memories that will last a lifetime. We’re very proud to say that we have a team of professional iguana retrieval dogs to maximize our iguana hunting efforts. These reptiles are hard to retrieve and the dogs make quick work of it. Their ability to speed up our hunting has significantly improved our impact on iguana populations. They allow us to take more shots, harvest more iguanas, and have a great time on the water. Due to the invasiveness of the species, Florida iguana hunting season is open year-round. Our team works tirelessly around the clock to find these reptiles, their nests, and help reduce the populations in the state. When you hunt with us, you are part of the solution—helping us get huge wins for the state of Florida.
