About Our Duck Hunts in Florida

Most important info about these hunts—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.

Summary & Terrain

Florida’s combination of subtropical wetlands and temperate marshes makes it one of the premier destinations in the United States for waterfowl hunting. From the expansive shallow flats of Lake Okeechobee to privately managed impoundments in the Everglades region, hunters pursue both migratory and resident duck species against a backdrop of sawgrass marshes, cypress swamps, and agricultural reservoir systems. Private ranchlands, dairy reservoirs, and public water bodies become staging areas for large flocks of pintail, wigeon, scaup, ring-neck, blue-wing and green-wing teal, as well as year-round residents like mottled ducks, fulvous whistling ducks, and black-bellied tree ducks. A 1,000-acre private marsh often serves as a showcase property, while quieter back-water lakes and rivers offer more intimate hunting opportunities.

Difficulty & Strategy

Guided hunts in Florida typically employ a mix of airboats, mud boats, and strategically placed blinds on levees or dykes. Blind hunts rely on full decoy spreads and natural cover—cane, brush, or floating blinds—to present a lifelike feeding or landing scenario. Running shallow flats by airboat or working larger reservoirs by mud boat allows guides to stay one step ahead of moving flocks. Decoying is the primary strategy; success hinges on blending calls, decoys, and concealment with precise timing. Overall physical demands range from moderate (comfortable blind setups) to more active (frequent boat repositioning and glassing), making these hunts accessible to a wide range of skill levels.

Amenities

Florida duck hunts are offered as both day-only outings and multi-day excursions with cabin lodging. Day hunts typically do not include overnight accommodations, while full-package trips feature waterfront or marsh-edge cabins outfitted with comfortable beds and private or shared bathroom facilities. Cabins are equipped with modern climate-control systems to ensure a comfortable interior temperature regardless of outdoor conditions. Hunting is fully guided, allowing participants to focus on blind setups and waterfowl calling, then return to well-appointed cabins for rest and relaxation in the evenings.

Season & Additional Info

Florida’s duck season generally runs from early November through late January, with slight variations depending on flyway regulations and county-by-county dates. Guides handle permitting, safety briefings, and field dressing so you can focus on shooting. Many outfitters include all necessary equipment—boats, decoys, calls, and blinds—as well as post-hunt processing of meat and hides. Whether you’re chasing early teal concentrations in November or targeting late-season ring-necks on open reservoirs, Florida’s diverse waterfowl populations and managed wetlands ensure consistent action and a true southern hunting experience.

Pricing

Florida duck hunts average around $1,800 per hunter. Day hunts without lodging sit at the lower end of the range, while multi-day packages that include guided fieldwork and waterfront or marsh-edge cabin accommodations typically align with or exceed the average. Major cost drivers include trip duration, cabin quality (private versus shared bath, climate control, bedding), and the level of guide service. Basic day-only outings appeal to those seeking a budget-friendly experience, mid-range hunts offer upgraded cabins and meals, and top-tier packages provide premium lodging, full-service guiding, and seamless field care.

Florida Marsh & Swamp Duck Hunt, 4 Days of Hunting, 2-Person Minimum
Hunting the marshes and swamps of Lake Okeechobee for ducks is an experience in itself. Not only do we hunt on the famous Lake Okeechobee, we also hunt various public water lakes and rivers as well as private land. On our private waters, we hunt a mixture of swamps on private ranches and big reservoirs on dairies. We chase the ducks so each hunt could be in a different location. On day one we might run the airboat in the shallow marshes of Lake Okeechobee. The next morning take the mud boat out into some open water to try ringers, then pack up and go to a private dairy to hunt in a reservoir to knock down some black bellies. No matter what type of hunt you are looking for we will accommodate. If you are looking to complete your ultimate waterfowl challenge, then we can help you with that. We shoot mottled ducks, black belly whistlers, and some fulvous when the time is right. On top of those species, we also shoot blue wing teal, green wing teal, and ringers.
