We think these three hunts should be at the top of your list.
Exotic Ram / Hog Combo Hunt - 2 Day, 1 Hog, 1 Ram
Many of our hunters choose the Ram/Hog Combo hunt. This hunt has its own challenges as the rams become very wary of hunting pressure. We try to keep a variety of rams on the ranch, such as Corsican, Texas Dall, Black Hawaiian, Angora, and Jacob Four Horn, just to name a few. Ram meat makes excellent sausage!
Our Ram/Hog Combo hunts can be very exciting for novice hunters as well as experienced hunters alike. Many of our novice or younger hunters choose to harvest their rams while sitting in one of our many ground blinds. This option offers the hunter a longer opportunity for better shot placement. However, spotting and stalking the rams during the midday hours is the method of choice for those wanting a more exciting and challenging hunt. While it is possible to get within close range of these animals, you should also be prepared for longer-range shots.

About Our Exotic Sheep & Goats Hunts in Texas
Most important info about these hunts—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.
Summary & Terrain
Texas’s private ranches offer some of the most accessible and productive exotic sheep and goat hunts in North America. With the state leading the nation in exotic sheep numbers, hunters can pursue a diverse roster of species—Trans-Caspian Urial, Corsican, Texas Dall, Black Hawaiian, Red sheep, Angora, and multi-horn Jacob sheep—across sprawling tracts of rolling hills, mesquite brush, and open grasslands. These ranch landscapes blend semi-arid plains with pockets of timber and draws, giving hunters a genuine ‘Old World’ safari feel without leaving the Lone Star State.
Hunting exotic sheep on Texas ranches ranges from moderate to challenging, depending on the method chosen and the quarry’s wariness. Many hunters opt for spot-and-stalk midday, glassing animals on distant ridges before making a careful approach, while others prefer stationary strategies such as ground blinds or safari-style setups. Firearm options include rifles, handguns, and black powder, and bowhunters likewise find ample opportunities. Expect to engage animals at medium to long ranges, so solid range-finding and steady marksmanship are key to success.
Exotic sheep and goat hunts in Texas are based out of full-service ranch lodges featuring modern climate control throughout. Accommodations include private or semi-private rooms with comfortable beds, ensuring a good night’s rest between outings. Common areas within the lodge provide a central gathering place for meals and hunt briefings. The climate-controlled environment keeps hunters comfortable year-round, regardless of outdoor temperatures.
These hunts are available year-round by advance reservation, with peak comfort often found in the cooler fall and winter months. Packages typically include one-on-one guiding, field dressing, license and permit coordination, ranch lodging or bunkhouse accommodations, and gourmet meals. Post-hunt services cover meat processing and trophy care, ensuring your harvest is properly handled for transport or local taxidermy. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned trophy hunter, Texas exotic sheep and goat ranches deliver a turnkey experience in a uniquely Texan, safari-style setting.
Exotic sheep and goat hunts in Texas typically start around $3,900. These rates generally include full-service ranch lodging with climate-controlled private or semi-private rooms, all meals, and experienced guides. Costs vary based on the number of days in the field, the variety of species pursued, and group size. Entry-level packages often cover a one-day hunt for a single species, while mid-level options extend to multiple days and may include an additional species. Premium hunts feature longer durations, smaller hunter-to-guide ratios, and full trophy-care services such as field dressing and transport arrangements.
FAQs
What you need to know before you book:
What type of terrain should I expect when hunting exotic sheep and goats in Texas?
Exotic sheep and goat hunts in Texas typically take place on private ranches featuring rugged limestone hills, cedar-brush canyons and rolling prairie. You’ll encounter steep draws and rocky outcrops where animals bed and feed. While trails to key vantage points are often maintained, be prepared for uneven footing, slick rock and short, steep ascents during spot-and-stalk approaches.
Are there specific regions of Texas known for better exotic sheep and goat hunting?
Yes. The Edwards Plateau (Hill Country) around Uvalde and Kerr counties is famous for Barbary sheep and aoudad. In West Texas, the Trans-Pecos region—particularly Brewster and Presidio counties—offers large ranches stocked with various exotic sheep and goats. These areas combine rugged terrain with reliable water sources that concentrate animals during cooler morning and evening hours.
What methods are commonly used to hunt exotic sheep and goats in Texas?
Spot-and-stalk is the primary method on most Texas exotics ranches. Hunters glass ridgelines and benches for feeding animals, then carefully close the distance using natural cover. Some outfits also use elevated ground blinds or waterhole stations—especially in hotter months—to intercept animals drawn to water. Regardless of the setup, success hinges on good optics, wind management and patience.
