We think these three hunts should be at the top of your list.
Montana 3-Day Antelope Hunt, 1x1
This is a unique hunt on private land where hunts are conducted out of 4x4 trucks, making it feasible for elderly folks or those with difficulty walking.
We have been operating out of our Candy Dan Camp for over 25 years. Constructed on the private ranch we hunt, located some 65 miles south of Great Falls, our base camp consists of a newly constructed cook house built in 2013, equipped with a full kitchen, buffet table, couches, hot and cold water, and a custom dining table for up to 12 hunters, three cabins for sleeping quarters for the hunters, a sauna house, and sleeping quarters for the guides. Camp is equipped with propane heat, electricity in all cabins, full shower/sauna, and WIFI!
Our antelope hunts are conducted in the month of October on our private leases. The antelope herds are healthy and growing. Trophy bucks in our area average 13-14″ with 15″ a possibility. Antelope hunts are done in the traditional spot and stalk. This hunt is great for kids and families as there is usually lots of action, spotting, stalking, and shooting.
Come and enjoy a great hunt, view mule deer, whitetail, and elk. Antelope can also be added to our elk hunts we offer in November. Antelope licenses in the state of Montana are on a draw basis; the deadline to apply is June 1.

About Our Pronghorn Antelope Hunts in Montana
Most important info about these hunts—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.
Summary & Terrain
Pronghorn antelope are an iconic symbol of the American West, and Montana’s private ranchlands offer some of the healthiest and most accessible herds in the country. Hunts take place on expansive rolling sagebrush flats and mixed grass meadows, with sweeping visibility for many miles. Private leases south of Great Falls provide exclusive access to a robust antelope population under limited-quota tag systems, ensuring sustainable harvests and strong trophy potential. Open terrain and predictable movement patterns make this region a premier destination for pronghorn hunters.
These hunts are generally rated as moderate in difficulty, with most access provided via four-wheel-drive trucks and minimal hiking required. Hunters glass from vehicle vantage points or low hilltops, then spot-and-stalk to within shooting range. Effective long-range shooting skills are helpful given the antelope’s keen eyesight and wariness. Guides tailor the pace and approach to each hunter’s ability, making the experience suitable for first-timers, families, and those with limited mobility.
Pronghorn antelope hunts in Montana typically feature a blend of remote tent camps and rustic cabins positioned near prime prairie and sagebrush habitats. Tent camps offer a true backcountry experience, with hunters sleeping on sturdy cots under canvas. Cabins provide a touch more comfort, with real beds and basic shelter. Heating options vary by lodging type: wood-burning stoves are common in tents and some cabins, while propane heaters keep other cabins warm on cool mornings and evenings. These setups allow hunters to rest comfortably between guided outings across the wide-open high plains.
Antelope seasons on private leases typically run in October, when cooler weather and breeding activity increase antelope movement. Tags are allocated through a draw process with application deadlines in early summer; many hunters draw on their second or third attempt. Comfortable base camps feature heated cabins, a cookhouse, and basic amenities to keep guests refreshed. Field dressing is included, and many outfitters allow combining antelope with mule deer or elk tags. High success rates and plentiful herds make Montana pronghorn hunts a rewarding introduction to Western big-game hunting.
Pronghorn antelope hunts in Montana typically run around $4,000 for a fully guided trip. These prices generally cover 3–5 days in the field, one-on-one guide service, all meals, lodging in either backcountry tent camps or rustic cabins, and field care of your animal (caping, quartering, and basic transport arrangements). The most budget-friendly hunts are shorter, tent-camp–only itineraries, while mid-range packages add cabin stays and extra hunting days. Higher-end options usually extend the trip length, feature upgraded cabin accommodations with better heating and comfort, and provide enhanced access to remote pronghorn country. Note that state tags, license fees and gratuities are typically not included in the base hunt price.
FAQs
What you need to know before you book:
How abundant is pronghorn antelope in Montana?
Montana is home to one of the nation’s largest pronghorn populations, with healthy herds concentrated on the eastern plains and sagebrush country. State wildlife surveys consistently show stable or rising numbers, and limited-entry tags help maintain sustainable harvest levels. Hunters can often glass dozens of animals in a single outing.
Are there specific regions of Montana known for better pronghorn antelope hunting?
Yes. The best pronghorn hunting in Montana is typically found in the eastern and southeastern plains, particularly in areas like Powder River, Carter and Wibaux counties. These regions feature vast sagebrush flats and grasslands where pronghorn density is highest. Many outfitters position tent camps or cabins within easy access of these prime habitats.
What methods are commonly used to hunt pronghorn antelope in Montana?
Spot-and-stalk is the most popular method, taking advantage of panoramic views from low ridges or rolling draws. Hunters glass for herds with binoculars or spotting scopes, then plan a cautious approach downwind. Some guides also employ ground blinds at water holes or use long-range rifle setups. Calling and decoys are used less frequently, as pronghorns are typically driven by forage patterns rather than curiosity.

DL Elk Outfitters conducts guided rifle elk hunts on over 70,000 private acres in the Big Belt Mountains in central Montana. These private lands are home to some of Montana’s largest resident elk herds. We are not dependent on migrations or heavy snows to push the elk out of areas we cannot hunt, giving our hunters a high chance of success. The country is rich in large grass meadows for feed to ridges and draws of timber, making excellent habitat. Elk hunters access the hunting areas by 4-wheel drive vehicles and hiking to vantage spots and glassing for bull elk. (No horses or pack strings here.)
Only bull elk with brow tines are legal in our area to harvest and that means 5, 6, and 7 point bulls are the norm here rather than the exception. Elk hunters average glassing more than 100 elk per week on our hunts. Mule Deer and Whitetail Deer are available on all elk hunts and make for a great combo. Our hunting leases, comfortable cabins, elevations under 6500 feet, and 4-wheel drive access make this an area any hunter regardless of age or physical condition can hunt. Our rifle elk hunts are all guided 2 hunters per guide unless prior arrangements are made. Elk and deer licenses are on a draw basis and have to be applied for to the state of Montana by March 15. Draw rates in recent years have been 100%.
