About Our White-Tailed Deer Hunts in Wyoming

Most important info about these hunts—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.

Summary & Terrain

Wyoming offers some of the most rewarding whitetail deer hunting in the West, producing trophy-class bucks often scoring in the 130”–155” range. While much of the state is known for mule deer, carefully managed ranches and private leases in agricultural valleys, river-bottom timber draws, and rolling foothills provide ideal whitetail habitat. Hunters can expect to glass from elevated benches overlooking crop fields or stalk through thick willow and cottonwood stands, encountering large bachelor groups and solitary mature bucks throughout the season.

Difficulty & Strategy

Whitetail hunts in Wyoming are generally moderate in physical demand and well suited to most hunters in good health. Guided hunts emphasize proven tactics such as ground-blind shooting over food or water sources, and treestand ambushes along pinch points and natural funnels. During rifle season, spot-and-stalk techniques—using high vantage points for glassing and then closing the distance on foot—are highly effective. Guides invest significant time in preseason scouting to locate core buck bedding areas and travel corridors, which contributes to consistently high success rates and ample shooting opportunities.

Amenities

White-tailed deer hunts in Wyoming generally feature comfortable, rustic accommodations such as small lodges, ranch cabins, or heated bunkhouses located close to prime deer habitat. Sleeping arrangements typically include private or shared bedrooms with standard beds or bunk beds, and in some cases heated wall tents for a more traditional outdoors experience. Heating is provided by wood-burning stoves, propane heaters, or electric climate-control systems, ensuring a warm basecamp as temperatures cool in the pre-rut and rut seasons. These guided hunts balance comfort with accessibility, allowing hunters to rest well before heading out into the field each morning.

Season & Additional Info

Archery season for Wyoming whitetail opens on September 1, when deer are still feeding on summer forages, and most rifle seasons run from mid-October through November, depending on the unit. Licenses are generally available through state draw or over-the-counter purchase, and many operators offer all-inclusive packages that handle permits, lodging, meals, field dressing, and trophy care. Hunters can often combine whitetail tags with other big-game hunts or extend their stay for late-season antelope or mule deer pursuits, making Wyoming an excellent destination for multi-species adventures.

Pricing

Guided white-tailed deer hunts in Wyoming typically run in the mid-five-thousand-dollar range, with most outfitters averaging around $5,300 per hunter. These packages generally include 3- to 5-day hunts during the pre-rut and rut seasons, with lodging in ranch cabins, small lodges, heated bunkhouses or wall tents situated close to prime feeding and bedding areas. Transportation to hunting zones is usually by 4x4 vehicle or ATV, and most outfitters handle all field care, from tracking and recovery to trophy processing. Entry-level options tend to feature shared lodging and shorter hunt durations, while mid-range hunts add private rooms, more personalized guide attention and extended time in the field. At the higher end, hunters can expect exclusive access to large, private ranches, elevated stands or layout blinds, and full-service meals. In every tier, permit and tag fees, as well as trophy caping and cooling for shipment, are typically included in the overall price.

5-Day Deer Hunt (Whitetail)
Wyoming’s archery whitetail season opens on September 1 which provides us with amazing opportunities to hunt these deer while they are still on their summer feed patterns. Most archery hunts happen over food or water sources from ground blinds and it’s not uncommon to see 100+ whitetails per day, with several shooter bucks in the group. We also utilize treestands where appropriate. Wyoming allows the use of either compound or crossbow so there are ample hunting opportunities regardless of weapon choice.

4-Day Whitetail Deer Hunts (Private Land)
Few people think of Wyoming as a trophy whitetail location, but if the sheer number of deer you see in a single day isn’t enough, the size of the bucks will be. Big Horn Outfitters consistently produces some of the largest whitetails harvested in Wyoming. Unlike many outfitters, whitetails are not a second thought at BHO. We spend a significant amount of time scouting and managing our ranches to produce the biggest bucks and some of the best whitetail deer hunting you’ve ever seen. BHO is proud to offer very high success rates on whitetail hunts and we regularly harvest whitetails in the 130″ to 155″ range each year.

4-Day Combo Whitetail Deer & Antelope Hunt in Wyoming
Big Horn Outfitters offers excellent mule deer hunting opportunities in Wyoming Game and Fish regions: C & Y. We harvest excellent deer every year averaging between 150-165″, with many larger deer harvested each year. You can expect to see good numbers of animals and have opportunities at respectable bucks during your hunt. For the most part, these hunts are only mildly physical and can be enjoyed by hunters of all ages and abilities. Success rates are generally 100% each year, the only hunters that haven’t harvested their deer, were looking for a specific animal simply chose not to take any others during their hunt. These deer hunts book up extremely fast, generally 2-4 years in advance and they all require 2 or more preference points to draw the tag in Wyoming. The Montana tag is a general deer license and will currently take 1 point to draw. Mule deer/Antelope combination hunts are very popular among our hunters and allow you to experience two great types of hunt on a single trip. Generally, you’ll focus on the deer in the morning and evenings and hunt antelope during the middle of the day.
