About Our Wild Hog Hunts in California

Most important info about these hunts—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.

Summary & Terrain

California wild hog hunts take place on extensive private ranchlands spanning central and northern parts of the state. Feral pigs and wild boars thrive in a variety of habitats—from oak‐studded rolling hills and brush-filled canyons to grain fields and steep rocky draws. Some outfitters even offer hunts in low-fenced preserves or estate settings, while others operate entirely fair-chase on thousands of acres of open terrain. Regardless of the setting, hunters can expect rugged, diverse country with ample cover and water sources that attract sizeable sounders year-round.

Difficulty & Strategy

These hunts are rated moderate in difficulty: hunters should be prepared for early starts, glassing from lookout points or benches, and then spot-and-stalk approaches through thick brush and uneven ground. Guides tailor each day to individual preferences, offering ground blinds, elevated stands, or long-range vantage points for trophy boars with impressive tusks. While the sheer number of pigs encountered—often 50 to 100+ per day—means opportunities abound, selecting and closing the distance on a mature boar still requires patience, stealth, and accurate shooting.

Amenities

California wild hog hunts offer a range of accommodations to match different comfort levels and trip styles. Many outfitters base operations in climate-controlled lodges or outfitted RVs, each providing beds and modern heating and cooling for a comfortable stay. For hunters seeking a more rugged experience, basic field or mobile camps may be available, with simpler sleeping setups and variable climate amenities. In every case, guided support and essential camp services are included to ensure a focused and well-supported hunting experience.

Season & Additional Info

Wild hog seasons in California run year-round, and most multi-day packages include lodging, meals, transportation across ranch properties, field dressing, and meat or trophy processing. Hunt formats typically limit groups to one or two hunters per guide, ensuring personalized attention and high success rates. Many outfitters back their hunts with shot-opportunity guarantees or no-pay policies. Whether you’re after a hefty meat hog or a trophy-class tusker, California’s diverse ranch country offers a flexible, action-packed hunt at almost any time of year.

Pricing

Wild hog hunts in California generally start at around $1,800 per hunter for a multi-day experience. Rates vary based on length and lodging options. At the entry level, half-day or shared-guide hunts with basic field camps tend to run lower, while full-day or private-guide outings operating from climate-controlled lodges or outfitted RVs occupy the mid-range. Premium packages often extend the trip duration, include upscale accommodations and meals, and may feature exclusive property access or specialized equipment. In all cases, guided support, on-site transportation, and field dressing of harvested hogs are incorporated into the base price, with processing or shipping handled as an add-on service.
