Overview
Frog hunts are great fun. They are hunted with gigs at night. It is a distinctively Southern experience. Usually, hunters will patrol slowly along the edges of rivers or lakes, looking for their bright eyes reflecting off the beams of headlamps. Frog gigging is best done with two or more people. One will shine a bright light into the eyes of the frog, blinding it. While the frog is blinded, the other hunter will approach from behind and gig the frog. It's possible to gig many frogs in a single night. Some states have bag limits while others do not.

Hunters should arrange their own accommodations—camping with a tent and sleeping bag or booking nearby lodging—and bring all necessary gear. Sleeping arrangements on-site are not supplied, nor are heating or cooling systems in temporary blinds or camps. Participants typically return to their chosen base each evening and are responsible for their own meals and field comforts.
