Intro to this species—landscapes, strategies, costs, and comforts.
Summary
The python, a non-venomous constrictor snake belonging to the family Pythonidae, is renowned for its impressive size and striking patterns, making it a fascinating subject for both wildlife enthusiasts and hunters alike. These formidable reptiles can grow to over 20 feet in length, with some species exhibiting striking coloration that camouflages them within their natural habitats, ranging from rainforests to savannas. When hunting pythons, it's essential to understand their behavior; they are primarily ambush predators, relying on stealth and patience to capture prey, which can include small mammals and birds. Successful hunting techniques entail knowledge of their preferred environments, tracking methods, and the use of proper equipment to safely and humanely capture these powerful snakes. Additionally, hunters should be aware of the legal regulations surrounding python hunting in their regions, as conservation efforts play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
Invasive python hunts typically take place in subtropical wetland environments where these large constrictors have become established. Guided boat-based expeditions team each hunter with experienced professionals and scent-trained detection dogs to locate snakes and nests deep in remote island thickets. All necessary equipment—from boats and safety gear to capture tools—is provided, and hunts emphasize ethical removal and conservation benefits. Participants should be prepared for challenging conditions, including dense vegetation, biting insects, and the presence of other wildlife, making this a high-adventure pursuit that appeals to both newcomers and seasoned hunters alike.
Python hunts are organized as day outings without included lodging, sleeping accommodations, or meals. Participants should arrange their own overnight accommodations in the nearest town or base camp. Hunts begin in the morning and conclude by evening, and no on-site heating or cooling amenities are provided, so hunters should plan accordingly and bring any personal gear needed for comfort during travel and scouting.
We think these three hunts should be at the top of your list.
4-5 Hour Professional Python Hunt With Dogs
Hop on the bow of the boat with our team of professional hunting guides and python dogs, hunting invasive pythons on islands in the Everglades. We put our decades of hunting and conservation experience to work to locate and capture snakes in an ethical way. These hunts aren't for the faint of heart, but we provide a safe and fun experience. Trust us when we say that this is truly the hunt of a lifetime and one that you won't soon forget.
We’re very proud to say that we have a team of professional snake-hunting dogs to track and capture pythons in the Everglades. These snakes are hard to find and make their nests even harder to find. Our dog’s ability to track these reptiles by scent and locate nests has changed the game. Together we found more python nests than every other python hunter combined last season.
Unlike other python hunters, we're not taking y'all on a trip in the cab of a truck looking for snakes along roadsides and levies. We're loading up the dogs and taking the boat out to the middle of nowhere to the "Python Islands" to find snakes and their nests deep in the wilds of the Florida Everglades.
The python islands of the Everglades offer some of the hardest hunting available. The thick vegetation and brutal bugs are just the first things you'll need to think about. You've got to watch your back for alligators and watch your step for water moccasins. Hunting these islands is not for the faint of heart and that's where our team of professional python hunting guides comes in.

Python FAQs
What you need to know before you book:
How does hunting python compare to other species?
Python hunts are driven by conservation and removal rather than trophies or meat, setting them apart from most big-game hunts. You won’t need a traditional hunting tag or worry about seasons in the same way – the goal is to reduce an invasive population. Rather than tree stands or ground blinds, you’ll work from boats with scent-trained dogs in subtropical wetlands. The focus is on locating and humanely dispatching each snake to benefit native wildlife.
How challenging is it to hunt python?
Hunting python can be physically and mentally demanding. You’ll navigate narrow waterways and dense island thickets from a small boat, often in hot, humid conditions. Guides and detection dogs help locate snakes, but you’ll need the strength to net or snare large constrictors and the stamina to spend hours standing in a boat or wading through marshy ground. Proper footwear, insect protection, and a willingness to get dirty are essential.
How does weather affect hunting python?
Weather has a major impact on python activity and access. Warm, humid days generally make pythons more active and easier to find near water edges. Heavy rains raise water levels and open up more channels for boat travel, but also increase mosquitoes and make footing slippery. During dry spells, snakes concentrate around shrinking pools, making them easier to locate, though low water can limit boat access. Storms or high winds may force hunts to pause for safety.
