All hunts are on PRIVATE PROPERTY located in Southeastern and South central Colorado. We offer both regular and late season hunts on the plains. We have over 300,000 acres available to hunt on these ranches.
Lodging on the ranches is in comfortable houses. These houses are part of the ranch and have showers and electricity, making a very nice hunting camp with home cooked meals and excellent guides. It is also possible to combine an Elk hunt or a Bison Hunt with a Mule or Whitetail Deer Hunt. As you can tell we are Trophy Deer hunters and our success and results speak for themselves.
We have a long list of hunters with B&C bucks on their wall from our Eastern Plains hunts. The bucks are here and we know how to hunt them. We are constantly finding and opening new country for our clients.

In the eastern part of the San Luis Valley, located in GMU 82, The Great Sand Dunes National Preserve offers 32,000 acres of over-crowed elk also known as the “sand dunes herd”. On this hunt, you will be packing in horseback and staying in a tent with wood stove. Hunting packages are available for archery and rifle. Hunts are fully guided for 5 days, but plan on arriving a day or two early to get into the base camp and staying a day later if wanting to hunt the full 5 days. Our guided pack-in sand dune hunts will take place in prime country for trophy bull elk. Elevation ranges between 8,500-12,000 feet in the sand dunes. These areas typically contain aspen groves and deep drainages. Our pack-in camps reside in several different locations . The base camps are off the grid and anywhere from a two to eight hour horseback ride. Once you arrive to the spike camp, hunting will be done mainly on foot everyday. A day on this hunt begins with your guides cooking breakfast, starting fires, and prepping gear for the day. After which, you will begin to head to the hunting location at where you will spend most of the day. After hunting hours are over, you will return back to base camp where dinner will be prepared depending on the pack in it could be quick prepared food.

You will be able to hunt four private ranches (55,000 acres) along with approximately one thousand acres of BLM land, reaching an altitude of well over 10,000 feet. Our elk hunts are fair chase, and the terrain and scenery are breathtaking. With only 36% of Jackson County being private property, pressured elk to seek out the protection of private lands for safety, which is where the majority of our hunting takes place. Our ranches are on the fringes of the timber and offer significant agriculture opportunities, making this prime free-range elk habitat very productive for our hunters. The elk herd stands at almost 20 bulls for 100 cow elk. The Colorado Department of Wildlife’s studies show this ratio is increasing, which means your opportunity for a bull is significantly higher than public lands throughout other parts of Colorado. In 2018, studies showed that the harvest success rate for all elk across the state was around 18%; in the last five years, our success rate was far better than the state average.

From the trailhead, you will reach the drop camp on one of our reliable horses or mules, assisted by an experienced packer who will pack in your personal gear and food. Packers will also pack out your game from the field to the trailhead.

In the eastern part of the San Luis Valley, located in GMU 82, The Great Sand Dunes National Preserve offers 32,000 acres of over-crowed elk also known as the “sand dunes herd”. On this hunt, you will be packing in horseback and staying in a tent with wood stove. Hunting packages are available for archery and rifle. Hunts are fully guided for 5 days, but plan on arriving a day or two early to get into the base camp and staying a day later if wanting to hunt the full 5 days. Our guided pack-in sand dune hunts will take place in prime country for trophy bull elk. Elevation ranges between 8,500-12,000 feet in the sand dunes. These areas typically contain aspen groves and deep drainages. Our pack-in camps reside in several different locations . The base camps are off the grid and anywhere from a two to eight hour horseback ride. Once you arrive to the spike camp, hunting will be done mainly on foot everyday. A day on this hunt begins with your guides cooking breakfast, starting fires, and prepping gear for the day. After which, you will begin to head to the hunting location at where you will spend most of the day. After hunting hours are over, you will return back to base camp where dinner will be prepared depending on the pack in it could be quick prepared food.

R & R Ranch of Colorado, Inc. is owned by husband-and-wife team Jeff and Shari Kempton, Shari Kempton founded and was also the chairperson for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation - Gainesville, Florida Chapter for over a decade and both are still actively involved. Jeff has been guiding this ranch for the past 35 years and knows the land as well as the animal movements throughout the private 27,000 - acre ranch. New alfalfa fields have been planted and water is supplied year round to ensure healthy and more resident animals.

Although we specialize in fully guided hunts, we do offer drop camps. This camp includes one large wall tent per every four hunters for a total of five (5) nights. Tents are fully equipped with wood stove, pots, pans, cook stove, chairs, and table. You must supply your own food and any extras. You will be able to hunt four private ranches (55,000 acres) along with approximately one thousand acres of BLM land, reaching an altitude of well over 10,000 feet. Our elk hunts are fair chase, and the terrain and scenery are breathtaking. With only 36% of Jackson County being private property, pressured elk to seek out the protection of private lands for safety, which is where the majority of our hunting takes place. Our ranches are on the fringes of the timber and offer significant agriculture opportunities, making this prime free-range elk habitat very productive for our hunters. The elk herd stands at almost 20 bulls for 100 cow elk. The Colorado Department of Wildlife’s studies show this ratio is increasing, which means your opportunity for a bull is significantly higher than public lands throughout other parts of Colorado. In 2018, studies showed that the harvest success rate for all elk across the state was around 18%; in the last five years, our success rate was far better than the state average.
Specifically, you will be hunting just outside of the towns of Rand and Coalmont, CO. Rand is located about 3 hours Northwest of Denver at the base of Parkview Mountain at the south end of the North Park Region of Colorado. Coalmont is located 25 miles to the west of Rand and sits at the Eastern end of the Rabbit Ears Pass. The North Park Region is surrounded by mountain crests of the Park Range, Medicine Bow Range, and Never Summer Range. This area offers open sagebrush country and willow flat marshes surrounded by aspen, fir, and pine forests, reaching elevations beyond the tree line. With breathtaking views of Parkview Mountain to the south, the Never Summer Mountain Range and the Continental Divide to the southeast, and the rugged Buffalo Peaks to the west, you will truly find your place in the world!

With the increase in the number of Black Bear in Colorado, the Colorado Division of Wildlife has now available Private Land Bear Licenses for Colorado Bear Hunts. There is no drawing for these September Bear Licenses.
This will be a spot and stalk Colorado Bear Hunt in the canyons and mesas of Western Colorado using either a rifle or bow. Hunters will be staying at the Packrat Camp on the rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison with food, lodging, and 1×1 guide service at this famous elk camp.

Packrat Camp Muzzleloader Hunt - Elk & Mule Deer
All hunts are on PRIVATE PROPERTY located in Southeastern and South central Colorado. We offer both regular and late season hunts on the plains. We have over 300,000 acres available to hunt on these ranches.
Lodging on the ranches is in comfortable houses. These houses are part of the ranch and have showers and electricity, making a very nice hunting camp with home cooked meals and excellent guides. It is also possible to combine an Elk hunt or a Bison Hunt with a Mule or Whitetail Deer Hunt.
As you can tell we are Trophy Deer hunters and our success and results speak for themselves. We have a long list of hunters with B&C bucks on their wall from our Eastern Plains hunts. The bucks are here and we know how to hunt them. We are constantly finding and opening new country for our clients.
