Florida Archery Semi-Guided Trophy Deer Hunt

Trophy deer hunts in Northwest Florida. The property is located eight (8) miles north of Blountstown, Florida. Located just 35 miles west of Tallahassee in the Famous Florida panhandle. Access is easy from anywhere. We have four miles of beautiful river frontage on the Apalachicola River. We also maintain 20 food plots and 20 bait stations year-round. Bow hunters will enjoy success on our 4,000 acre archery only plantation that has been trophy managed for the last 19 years. Hunters can come by themselves or in a group. If you come by yourself we will pair you with one other hunter who came by themselves to pair you as a group. Your group will be assigned an exclusive portion of the property and your guide will then show you active trails and food sources within your exclusive portion of the property. Your guide will recommend areas for you to hang your stands. Most hunters have shot opportunities the first day. Our hunts are semi-guided and are perfect for the veteran bow hunter or the beginner. We have a lot of first-time bow hunters harvest their first animal with Southern Arrowhead Outfitters. If you are tired of hunting public land with low or no success or tired of paying the high cost of being a hunt club member, come hunt with us. We do all the hard work for you, all you have to do is show up, hang your stands and start hunting a private, managed, archery only plantation where you will have high success. You provide your own stand(s), license and personal needs. The hunts are five days and you may harvest two bucks, one doe, and one hog. All hunts are 5 days in length you may hunt less days, but the price is the same. The only hunts we offer are the hunts listed. We do not offer out of season hog hunts, but if you want to hunt only hogs on one of the hunts listed, we can make arrangements for you to do so. Lodging is available for an additional $200.00 for the 5 days or you may stay at a hotel close by. Hunters who choose to stay with us must provide their own food as we do not serve or offer food. This area is famous for having the largest deer in Florida and some of the largest deer in the Southeast. We are located only 30 minutes from Alabama and Georgia so we have the large deer and are able to hunt them legally over bait. Access is easy from anywhere. About the Property: We have four (4) miles of river frontage on the beautiful Apalachicola River. We have 20 food plots and 20 bait stations that we maintain year-round. Bow hunters will enjoy success on our ARCHERY ONLY 4,000 acre plantation that has been trophy managed for the last 16 years. Each hunter may harvest two bucks, one doe and one hog boar or sow. The bucks must have at least three points on one side or better to harvest. The property is teeming with deer and hogs. Lodging: Lodging is available on site for an additional $200.00 per person for all five days, or you may stay at a hotel close by. We have three full efficiencies houses on the property that offers the hunter on site lodging that is clean and comfortable. Our fresh water impoundments have the two ingredients essential for great puddle duck hunting- shallow water and a variety of natural foods.These impoundments provide ducks with high quality natural foods-wild rice, duck weed, smart weed and duck celery. These impoundments are 60-100 acres which means there is plenty of food throughout the gunning season. We also plant some wild rice each spring. These large impoundments are also big enough for birds to loaf on all day long without being disturbed. Also our impoundments are far apart which means we are hunting different bunches of birds to help keep our hunting consistently good. We like to use hand -carved cork decoys along with GHG decoys because of their realism and larger size. Most of the birds we are hunting travel in small bunches so 2-3 dozen decoys is plenty along with a few mojos when conditions dictate. We take a large variety of puddle ducks over the course of the season on these large impoundments. In the early season, (Oct -Nov) we mainly take smaller ducks- blue-wing teal, green-wing teal, wood ducks and mallards. In the late season, (Nov-Dec) we take a larger ducks and variety- a few straggler teal and wood ducks but mainly mallards and gadwall and some days pintail, widgeon and shovelers. We also take some Canada geese when conditions are right.

Fox & Coyote Hunt in Alaska

These hunts are conducted primarily by snowmobile in GMU’s 13 and 20. I run three different traplines encompassing over three hundred miles. If the hunter would like an opportunity to harvest a Lynx or Wolverine they will have to come join me in the dead of the Alaskan winter (December – February). I won’t promise warm weather but I will guarantee you some of the most scenic snowmobiling on earth and lots of it! Wolf hunting alaska style is always rewarding. We will do some calling for predators as well as setting traps and snares in locales that are likely spots to produce results. Typically we will snowmobile between 50-150 miles a day in search of Wolves, Wolverine, Lynx, Coyote and Fox. If you are looking to only do wolf hunting in Alaska then later in the winter is the prime time. We will stay at several of my cabins for two and three day stints looking for predators to call and/or trap. These hunts have become increasingly popular over the years so much so that I can’t even break away to attend a show to promote my business. If the hunter wants to harvest some of the most luxurious fur on the face of the earth then this hunt is for you.

Spring or Fall Rio Grande Turkey Hunt - Day Hunt on Private

To put it mildly – we love our turkey hunting. Turkeys in California are expanding their range every year, opening up new opportunities. In the areas we hunt it’s typically considered the Rio Grande subspecies of wild turkey. We offer spring California wild turkey hunts where you can experience your heart pound as a longbeard struts into view. We can also put you on an autumn turkey which requires a different approach but can easily be combined with several other hunting opportunities. We offer hunts on exclusive private ranches in the beautiful oak woodlands of California and also on public forestland where you can match wits with a truly wild mountain turkey. The choice is yours. Spring California Wild Turkey Hunts: Usually in February the male turkeys begin to gobble and that’s when we start hitting the hills listening and looking for strutting zones and roost trees. A day in the spring turkey woods is like magic. It starts early in the morning where we will set up near a roost tree long before first light. When the songbirds begin to sing their spring rituals is right about when the ring of gobbles echo from atop the roost trees. We will begin some light calling sequences to let the birds know there is a hen nearby. After the turkeys fly down it won’t be long before we will know if the plan worked out. Getting turkeys soon after they land on the ground from the roost is an excellent tactic. Some folks end the hunt after the morning thunder turns silent. We don’t stop there. If everyone in the group hasn’t got their bird we will hunt all day. In our experience hunting gets better as the late morning turns to afternoon. If you can get a gobble out of a turkey at 2 pm, that’s a bird that wants to play. Legal shoot time for spring turkey ends at 5 pm. On multi-day hunts the group is welcome to go and relax for the afternoon or join the guide to try and roost some birds in the evening for the next morning hunt. Fall California Wild Turkey Hunts: Fall turkey hunting takes a different approach. A common method is to break up the flocks of young-of-the-year turkeys that are still with the hen and use an assembly call to bring them back in. This technique doesn’t work so well for big Tom turkeys because they aren’t in the flocks with the young birds. The big turkeys are either alone or in bachelor groups. To kill a longbeard in autumn requires pre-season scouting to understand where they are loafing, feeding, and roosting. Our guides spend countless hours in the fall turkey woods observing sign and marking fall territories. When the season arrives it’s all about being in a strategic location to intercept the turkeys as they move about. Glassing openings and sneaking into shooting range also can be an effective method. The great thing about a fall turkey hunt is that there are so many other species that can be hunted at the same time, that live in the same region – including, mountain quail, valley quail, dove, squirrel, rabbit, gray fox, coyote, raccoon, bear, or even fishing. There is never any downtime in November and early December. Hunt can be extended for additional cost.

In the eastern part of the San Luis Valley, located in GMU 82, The Great Sand Dunes National Preserve offers 32,000 acres of over-crowed elk also known as the “sand dunes herd”. On this hunt, you will be packing in horseback and staying in a tent with wood stove. Hunting packages are available for archery and rifle. Alaska Peninsula Coastal Brown Bear Hunt

The population of Brown Bears on the Alaska Peninsula is at an all time high. With an abundant supply of salmon, berries, moose, caribou, ground squirrels and carrion, the refuge provides excellent habitat for numerous brown bears. The refuge supports one of the highest concentrations of brown bear in Alaska. According to Becharof National Wildlife Refuge staff, Becharof and Alaska Peninsula N.W.R. combined are thought to be home to as many as 3000 of these magnificent animals. Bears range from mountaintops to seacoast. Depending on weather conditions and food supply, Alaska Peninsula brown bears usually leave their dens in April/May and return in October/November. Some bears will den much later, or not at all, if adequate food sources are available. My hunting concessions span the entire width of the Alaska Peninsula, from Bristol Bay on the west to the Pacific Ocean on the east. One of my areas is the Island Arm of Becharof Lake; it provides most of the spawning and rearing habitat for sockeye and Coho salmon within the Becharof drainage. Consequently, it hosts one of the highest density of Alaska Peninsula brown bears feeding on spawning salmon that occurs in Becharof Refuge and the Ugashik area. My other area borders Shelikof Strait on the "Pacific side" of the Alaska Peninsula. This is tremendous bear habitat and we have harvested many bears over 10' from all three areas. I employ one guide per hunter. My guides love to hunt Alaska Peninsula brown bears! They average over 12 years guiding experience, some I have worked with for 20 years. Our bears average over 9 feet, with success rates over 90%. The bear season alternates between fall and spring on odd years (2013, 2015, etc.) we hunt in the fall and on even years (2014, 2016, etc.) we hunt in the spring. After every spring season, the Alaska Peninsula "rests" for 18 months until the next fall season!

We are pleased to offer hunting for trophy Arizona pronghorn antelope. It is no secret that Arizona pronghorn antelope are managed for older-age-class bucks with good genetics. What it lacks in quantity, it makes up in quality. In Arizona hunters are limited into the field by a drawing process which eliminates over harvest. This, in effect, produces a trophy-class herd. That is why it is not uncommon to see a sixteen-inch or larger horn on an Arizona pronghorn within the quality units. A glance in the record books will show that this state has produced some of the best antelope bucks in the world! We hunt the open country and prairies of Central to Southern Arizona, so long distance shooting is a must. It is not uncommon to take rifle shots over 300 yards on antelope. DESERT Bighorn Sheep Hunt in CO

This year again Colorado will offer a Non-Resident Desert Sheep Permit. It will be available in the regular April drawing. There are no preference points awarded so it is a wide open draw. European-Style Tower Shoot, Lunch Provided

While the majority of our hunts are behind pointing or flushing dogs, tower shoots, or continental shoots, are also very popular at Markover. Twelve stations, or buts, are positioned at various distances surrounding the central tower. Each station, containing 2 shooters, is arranged to keep the visibility of the tower at a bare minimum, if at all. Birds are released from the central tower, 6-7 at a time, and fly full speed over the tree tops creating an extremely challenging shot for even the most seasoned shooter. The shooters rotate stations after an equal number of birds have been released so that everyone has an opportunity to shoot at that day's hot stations. Halfway through the day we break for a hearty lunch at the lodge. Following lunch we head back to the fields for the remaining afternoon portion of the shoot. Springers, Labs and Goldens along with their handlers retrieve the downed birds as the shoot progresses. All birds are evenly divided between the shooters at the end of the day and can be traded for cleaned birds for a small fee. 7-Day Dual Weapon Rut Elk Hunt

These are among the most rugged Montana elk hunts, and we often describe them as “extreme” hunts. Our hunts are guided in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Swan Valley areas of Montana off of horseback. Our guides and horses have been preparing and getting shape all summer long on backcountry pack trips; elk season is what they’ve been waiting for! Archery hunting elk, requiring close proximity to the animal, is, by its very nature, quite different from hunting these animals using a rifle. Successful archery hunts require excellent calling abilities and guides who know the difference between techniques utilized for archery versus rifle hunts.
